Runway closures at NAS Whidbey Island
(NAS WHIDBEY ISLAND)– From August 5 through September 20, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island will have one operational runway for all flight operations. During this period, runway 14/32 at Ault Field will close for the installation of a new arresting gear system, restricting aircraft to Northeast or Southwest take-off and landing headings. These approaches and departures will potentially cause aircraft using Ault Field to operate more frequently than normal over western Skagit County/Mount Vernon/La Conner area, northern Island County and Lopez Island. Additionally, last month the Navy decided to temporarily suspend Field Carrier Landing Practice operations at OLF Coupeville until the end of the calendar year.
