Michael Shuman’s 2017 report titled The $122 Million Price Tag for The Naval Air Station Whidbey Island is an analysis of the hidden costs of the NASWI on county taxpayers, local businesses and public lands. The study is presented by the Sustainable Economy Collaborative, a diverse group of Island County residents that came together in 2016 to investigate the economic impacts of the US Navy on the local economy.
