As a result of the Republican Shutdown, NASWI’s civilian employee who publishes the weekly FCLP flight schedule has been furloughed, and there is no fallback planned for publishing the flight schedule.
This will have a wide-ranging and detrimental effect on the health and well being of any of us who could be caught in harms way by our inability to know the planned FCLP operations--that is, when they will start and end or begin again.
As you know FCLPs generate noise that can cause permanent hearing loss in adults and children in just a few seconds of exposure, increase risk of cardiac infarction for at-risk adults, and create unfortunate risks for the unborn. And for many who work from home, the schedule is critical for scheduling their virtual and phone meetings or arranging counseling sessions, etc.
Since the flight schedule is to be prepared and then flown regardless of the shutdown, it seems the only thing needed is a few moments of someone’s time to post it, yet the Navy thinks that is too much for them to worry about...some kind of Good Neighbor thing we assume.
If the Navy does not know we count on the flight schedule because they don’t hear us screaming, it just could go away...permanently.
ACTION ASKED: Please phone a message to Representative Larsen (DC office: 202-225-2605; Everette office: 425-252-3188), and ask him to help getting the flight schedule posted starting with the week of Oct 12–18.
If you have the time and energy, you could also phone Senators Murry (206-553-5545) and/or Cantwell (206-220-6400)
We deeply appreciate you all for your past and continued support...Citizens of Ebey's Reserve Board
